ERG/Unite Pro-Choice responds to Government’s Command Paper on abortion

If you want to read the Unite/ERG joint Campaign response to Government’s proposals on women’s reproductive rights without further ado, just click here.

However, if you want a short taster first, see below.

The proposals of the Gibraltar Government:

  • will require, among other extreme qualifiers (incest, rape, threat to mother’s life) for a woman to be confirmed to be mentally ill in order to access abortion.
  • will maintain a sentence of life imprisonment
  • will allow conscientious objection to pregnancy termination by healthcare professionals but provide no guarantee of an abortion by others holding no objection
  • will only recognise a very impractical qualifying time limit for access to abortion of anything between 10-14 weeks (yet to be decided). So what happens after 14 weeks?
