ERG & Unite celebrate Civil Society
Equality Rights Group has announced its annual Independent Civil Society Awards event, which is taking place this coming Wednesday 17 May at the Garrison Library. A total of 7 awards will be presented this year. All members of the public and media are invited.
‘Any and all Politicians,’ ERG adds, ‘are invited to attend, sit and listen’.
‘Entrance is free of charge, and guests are asked to arrive from 10.15am, with catering provided in the Library Gardens until the start of proceedings at 11am.
‘It’s now four years since Equality Rights Group first began to mark the importance of Civil Society in Gibraltar. We wanted to foster solidarity, independence and recognition for and among the many hard-working groups and individuals in Gibraltar, in the hope of constructing a stronger democracy.
‘And for the second year now, we welcome Unite the Union in celebrating the event. Prizing the work of those who have dedicated themselves to progress for ordinary working people is in the very spirit of this day.
‘The event grows year by year. This time, we are happy to have the participation of both the Gibraltar Women’s Association and rehabilitation group Stay Clean. We look forward to growing this community involvement in the event. We are also pleased to count on the presence of Mr Gibraltar (Vincent Acris) this time round.
‘And, with the announcement of the results of ERG’s signature annual Sweet & Sour Poll, where the public now votes what it feels about our politicians, proceedings are destined to prove interesting, if not surprising. Poll results are also being made public by ERG on whether Gibraltarians would like integration with Britain – or not.
‘Following an important year behind us, ERG Chairman Felix Alvarez aims to lay out major and important issues of equality, human and civil rights concern; while Unite Regional Officer, Victor Ochello, will similarly address questions of interest,’ the statement concluded.
